I just feel sooo special.
ArtisticSooooo, the story I wrote especially for the contest, Dogcatcher, didn't win anything. BUT, Origin of Seasons won a Merit Award. They kept saying that the Merit Award is like 3rd place, beneath silver and gold key, but I thought of, and still do think of, it as an 'Honorable Mentions' thing. More because of the name than anything, I mean "Merit Award"?
Doesn't it just scream "Oh, you are definitely not Nationals material, or Silver key material, but hey, why don't you just sit around in some university for 2 or 3 hours so we can give you a paper you could make yourself, a book you couldn't possibly dream of getting into, and then parade the real winners and JENNA BOYLES infront of you before telling you that they got $50 for everything they did that you couldn't, and JENNA just might have sent the whole lot of us to the poor house for it, in addition to her 100 or so dollars for being the American Voice, and let's just have her give a little speech about how she doodled a pretty picture of a kitty-cat in first grade and ever since has been a prodigy."
I don't mean to bitter, really I don't. Just that they had to bring some girl very few years older than me up, who won an award in pretty much every category (I lost could after key #12), and have her tell us all about her watercolor and sonnet life story. So great, I feel much better about my award, Oh Jenna, could you please sign my paper, and maybe some talent will rub off.
ANYWAY, had a dark moment there. Sunshine-y chick is back. Sooo, I got my little Merit Award, but something I can feel good about is that my little award was, in fact, big enough to get me on the CD of Writing and Art honorees (i think, crappy computer so I haven't gotten to check yet).
